When it comes time to enroll your child in a quality child care, daycare or preschool facility, how will you know if the one you choose will take proper care of your child, and meet all of your requirements? We will offer a few tips and ideas to relieve the stress of choosing a childcare center, which will provide your child the best opportunity for an excellent early preschool education.
One of the most important factors that contribute to the quality of a preschool or daycare facility is the dedication to promoting a safe, fun and healthy environment. These include the classroom, the playground, the cafeteria and any other areas in which your child will be exposed. In order for your child to learn optimally, the environment must be safe, nurturing and allow a child to learn with other peers his or her age.
Another important factor to consider is how many extracurricular activities are enjoyed by the teachers and students. These activities include afternoons in the garden doing biology, time spent in the science room satisfying curiosity, outdoor sports or field trips. These all contribute to the quality of a preschool environment by allowing your child to experience the world, rather than being restricted inside a classroom. It is important to remember that the earlier your child enjoys and comprehends various activities, the more he or she will excel at them later in life.

It is an exciting, fun, but sometimes stressful adventure during your newborn’s first year. This is especially true when determining what foods are beneficial for an infant’s emotional, social, and physical development. At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Concord we are trained to assist new parents with helpful information on many aspects of an infant’s first year of life.
Our infant child care program in Concord consists of four essential developmental components which include:
- Language development
- Emotional and social skills
- Cognitive and early learning
- Physical mastery of age-appropriate activities
The Learning Academy, located in Concord, balances fun with fitness and learning with laughter. We fully understand the importance of a healthy diet starting early in life, and offer useful information on dietary guidelines for your infant.
Iron is essential
Iron produces hemoglobin, which is the oxygen-carrying component of red blood cells. If your infant has an inadequate supply of iron, fewer neural-connections will be established, which stunts learning capabilities. A lack of iron is also associated with anemia, which causes lethargy. Iron can be added to a child’s diet from enriched cereal and leafy, green vegetables when solid food becomes palatable.
Iodine is also essential to a young child’s diet since it regulates metabolism, and assists with growth and brain development. When breast feeding, ask your doctor what is the appropriate level for iodine intake.

Self-esteem is an important part of your preschooler’s development, but how can you help him or her gain self-confidence and build self-esteem at this young age? Self-esteem can be defined as having respect for yourself as well as your abilities. It represents your child’s emotional evaluation of his or her own worth. Here are a few simple ways in which you can help your preschool child develop self-esteem.
Give your child unconditional love
Unconditional love is the most important factor for building your preschool child’s self-esteem. If your child feels that he or she is loved, despite any weaknesses, he or she will feel accepted and this will allow self-esteem to grow. Your unconditional love will give your child the confidence to learn through mistakes, their own or yours, and still know their value.
Let your child learn from their mistakes
Your child will learn the most through making mistakes and learning how to deal with them. When he or she makes mistakes, you are there to patiently guide and help him or her learn how to manage the situation. This will build his confidence because he or she will know that they are still loved. He or she will be better able to manage negative situations in the future, since these situations will not be tied to their identity.
Do not make comparisons to other children
You should not compare your child to another, especially in a negative way, since this can damage your child’s self-esteem. Any negative comparison will make your child feel less worthy, and be afraid to be genuine. Reinforce to your child that everyone is unique and valuable in their own way.
At Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Concord, we teach not only academics, but also work on building your child’s self-esteem and emotional development through our AdvancED accredited preschool program and exclusive fast track curriculum. Sleep is very important to infants. Newborns sleep up to 17 hours a day, which allows them an opportunity to develop their memory functions. Essential to their cognitive and physical development, infants should sleep whenever they require it.
Unaware of the difference between night and day, infants often wake up when a parent is trying to sleep. Spending more time in REM (Rapid Eye Movement), they have shorter sleep cycles than adults and wake up more easily.
A child can be trained when to sleep and will learn a more consistent sleeping pattern that will be more convenient for the parent:
- Know when your infant is tired: As you become familiar with your infant, you'll start to recognize signs that indicate tiredness. Avoiding eye contact, gazing off into the distance, and fussing are sure signs an infant is ready for sleep. Permitting the infant to refrain from sleep will lead to overtiredness and difficulty sleeping.
- Keep day and night distinct: An infant can begin to learn the difference between night and day within the first few weeks. During the day, keep the house full of daylight. Wake the infant up for feedings and continue normal household activities. Allow the infant to explore the world around him/her and get some healthy stimulation. A trip to the Historic Latta Plantation for a picnic with friends or family is a great healthy daytime activity. At nighttime, keep lights low and activity to a minimum. If he/she wants to play or cuddle, keep your activity quiet with perhaps a bedtime story or soft classical music.
- Start a bedtime routine: This routine can be anything, as long as it is consistent and about 15 minutes long. A warm bath, baby massage, a story or lullaby are great choices. A shorter routine at nap time is preferable.
- Have a peaceful nursery: Soft colors, lighting that can be kept low and no distractions creates feelings of calm and relaxation in preparation for sleep.
